Gorgonzola or Stilton? What Flavour Cheese are You?

North East & Cumbria Party DJ Disco Hire. Cheesy Music and Party Classics!

As a mobile company offering a huge range of services at a huge range of parties, the topic of music choice is close to our hearts. One area that often rears it's head is the subject of cheesy music and parties.

We get a huge range of playlists back from clients and some of them state (in big bold letters) "No cheesy music", while other couples specifically ask for it. It may sound obvious but we often ask "What do you mean by Cheese", as everyone's definition is different.

The first thing to realise is that one person's cheese is simply another's great song and it's difficult to label many songs as simply cheesy!

I had a lovely couple last year ask for no cheese, only to include Erasure's "A Little Respect" and Tina Turner's "Proud Mary" on their playlist; songs that many would consider extremely cheesy!

I've Heard This Too Many Times!

For many, songs enter the realms of cheese if they're overplayed, especially at parties. Here, Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" or Kenny Loggins "Footloose" would definitely fall into the cheese bracket. If you visited a random disco anywhere in the country you'd certainly be likely to hear one of these throughout the night!

On the flip side though, some modern songs such as Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk" and Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" are played just as often yet probably wouldn't be considered cheesy. The lifespan of a track is obviously key here.

Cheesy, Cheesy Dances!

For many people, the songs with choreographed dances that go with them are the epitome of cheese! Examples of these include classics such as "The Time Warp", "Macarena", "Y.M.C.A" and "Oops Upside Your Head". To be fair, there have also been more recent songs with dance routing such as the "Fast Food Song" and "Whipe Nae Nae", songs very popular with children.

Cheese at My Party?

While there's no doubt that these kind of tracks are great to get people dancing at a party, it's also true that for some clients, it's just not the kind of music they want. We feel a party works best when a happy medium is reached; tell us the songs you'd like us to play but also allow your guests to request these songs if they'd like them. As DJs our job is to read the room and consider the needs of the dancefloor so a bit of cheese throughout the night could be just what your party needs! If you really don't want them however, just let us know and the only cheese at your party will come with the buffet!
